T.I. & Tameka “Tiny” Harris Have Unveiled Their First 143-Unit Affordable Housing Complex [Video]

T.I. and Tameka “Tiny” Harris have opened their first affordable housing complex with over 100 units.

The development project was 143 apartments, with 25 units specially designed for homeless youth. On Tuesday, the ribbon-cutting ceremony took place at the complex called Intrada Westside. The property sits across from Center Hill Park in northwest Atlanta, an area where T.I. spent much of his childhood. T.I. was particularly passionate about the location of the apartments since they sit in the spot where his grandmother once grocery shopped.

Mayor Andre Dickens was present during the ribbon-cutting and said the partnership is an initiative between the city and T.I.’s Briarhouse Holdings, along with the Vecino group. Affordable housing has been a focal point in the city among officials and entertainers. In the last two years, Atlanta has created 3,200 affordable homes, with 5,000 more nearing completion, Fox 5 Atlanta confirmed. T.I. says he was inspired to invest more in the community after seeing Killer Mike do so.

“He says, ‘If everyone does a little, no one has to do a lot,’” T.I. shared during the ribbon-cutting, something Dickens also agreed with, adding, “Safe, quality, affordable housing is linked to what we value. It’s not something a government can fix on its own.”

T.I. has long been preaching the importance of investing, recently interviewing with The BlackPrint on Revolt, where he advised people to invest their first big check, no matter what other things they may want.
